Revised Rules & Regulations of the Ultramarathon Race as of 12 April 2009

The following are the rules and regulations of the 2nd Bataan Death March 102K Ultramarathon Race. However, these rules & regulations are subject to revision and changes depending on the prevailing situation along the route

1. Effective on the 2nd edition of the Bataan Death March 102K Ultramarathon Race, the race will be an invitational event. Application is open now. An applicant can leave their complete name, age, birthday, contacting telephone and cellphone numbers, e-mail address, and the name of the latest Marathon Race to have participated with Finish Time in the Comment and Feedback  pages of this website or leave a comment at the Bataan 102 Events Page at www.baldrunner.com with the same data/required information. The deadline in the acceptance of applicants will be on January 5, 2010. After a screening process on all the applicants, the runners who will be included in the final list of competitors will start receiving acceptance letters effective January 15, 2010 through their e-mail address.

2. The ultramarathon race will accommodate a maximum of 150 runners.

3. The runners included in the final list of competitors have at least 15 days to pay their registration fees. The last day of payment of registration fees is February 1, 2010. Local runners will pay a registration fee of Two Thousand Pesos Only (P 2,000). The foreign runners will pay a registration fee of Seventy Dollars ($ 70.00).

4. Runner-applicants must have finished at least one (1) Marathon Race within a period of one (1) year before the conduct of the race. Age limit is a minimum of 20 years old and there is no maximum age limit. 

5. The race will be strictly a “solo” race covering a distance of 102 kilometers. The cut-off time for the race is 18 hours. Those who will not finish the race within the cut-off time will be declared “Did Not Finish” (DNF).  Those who could not finish the first 50 kilometers in 9 hours will be automatically picked-up. Those who could not reach Kilometer Post #90 after 16 hours will be picked-up by Race Marshals.

6. Each runner-competitor is only allowed one (1) support vehicle with the proper markings on the back of the vehicle stating his/her last name and race bib number. Each runner-competitor is allowed a maximum of three (3) pacers who will be running with the competitor one pacer at a time. A runner will be immediately disqualified if caught with two or more pacers at a time during the race. “No support vehicle, no run” policy will be strictly implemented. No bicycles or motorcycles will be allowed as support vehicles.

7. There will no Aid Stations along the route. Each runner-participant will be responsible for his water, sports drinks, food and quick emergency medical needs like treatment of blisters and muscle cramps from start to finish of the race.

8. There will be Time Stations along the route where each runner would be required to stop to affix his signature on the the recorded time of his arrival.  Aside from the Time Stations, there will be “bands” to be distributed on strategic locations to serve as evidence that each runner had passed such points along the route. These “bands” will be submitted to the Race Director immediately after passing the Finish Line.

9. Runners are not allowed to use umbrella while running or walking along the route. Violators will be disqualified immediately.

10. There will be no TV Coverage, Radio, Newspaper, or any Media Coverage without the permission of the Race Organizer/Race Director. A copy of Race Reports from runners to be submitted to commercial publications should be given to the Race Organizer/Race Director for approval prior to submission to the publishers.

11. Runner-participants are not allowed to display or advertise their sponsors or donors on their support vehicles.

12. Runners will be advised and strictly adhere to running on the left side of the road, facing the incoming traffic. Runner-participants in a group should be running in a single file on the left side of the road. Pacers should be always on the left side or behind the runner-participant, never infront of the runner. Violation of this rule will cause outright disqualification of runners involved.

13. Support vehicle of each runner should be on the right side of the road. Support vehicles are advised to “leap frog” from one location to another. They are not allowed to cruise along the road behind or on the side of the runner-particpant with the same speed/pace with the runner. Support vehicles are supposed to be parked (on stop mode) on the right sidewalk of the road, never on the left sidewalk of the road, when providing support to the runner. Crews and pacers are responsible in giving support to the runner from their support vehicle. Pacers & Crews should be extra careful and vigilant in crossing the road during this situation. Giving support to the runner-participant while the support vehicle is in motion is not allowed.

14. Each runner-participant shall submit a Medical Certificate and sign a Waiver on the day before the race. These documents will be submitted to the Race Organizer/Race Director.

15. Every support vehicle will be submitted for inspection by the Race Director prior to the start of the race.

16. Every local runner in the final list of participants will submit an amount of Five Hundred Pesos (P 500) enclosed in a sealed envelop while the Foreign Runners will submit also an amount of Ten Dollars ($ 10) enclosed in a sealed envelop. These envelops will be received by the Race Organizer/Race Director prior to the start of the race. These envelops will be given to the representative of the association or group of living survivors of the Bataan Death March or authorities of the Veterans Medical Center.
